IVM is an advanced technique in assisted reproduction. In routine IVF cycle women receives multiple hormonal injections resulting in more number of eggs, of these only mature eggs are subjected to IVF. In IVM cycle immature eggs are collected and matured in lab and later subjected to IVF.
This technique was designed mainly for PCOD patients to avoid excessive hormonal stimulation and OHSS.
Recent research has shown it is useful in cases with abnormally high response to gonadotropin stimulation or patients with poor response as a part of fertility preservation, oocyte donation program and PGS (pre implantation genetic screening program).
The pregnancy rates with IVM are around 30 – 35% per cycle.
