Advanced Sperm Selection Techniques : MACS, MICROFLUIDICS

MACS(Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting)

MACS is a technique which separates apoptotic sperm cells from normal sperms.

In MACS, separation column is labelled with magnetic nano particles and then they put semen through a column, where the apoptotic sperm is captured. Intact live sperm flow through the column and are collected to fertilize oocytes.

Embryos created by using these purified spermatozoa have better chance for normal development. MACS technique is mainly used for patients with

MICROFLUIDICS

Microfluidics is advanced sperm sorting technology for selecting sperm with high DNA integrity. In this method sperm cells pass through these microbarriers, allowing for natural selection of morphologically normal sperms with less DNA fragmentation based on their forward motility.

Research has proven that use of microfluidics technique of sperm sorting leads to higher fertilisation rate that results in better embryos as well as increase in pregnancy rates after ICSI procedure.
