Oocyte Cryopreservation

Oocyte freezing is becoming more common where they can store the oocytes at early age when they are more viable with good quality to use them at later in the life.

It is being used in healthy young women in their late 20 or early 30s who wish to delay child bearing with the knowledge of the detrimental effects of aging on reproductive capacity.

It is done as apart of fertility preservation in women with medical conditions such as cancer patients who is planning to undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy which may result in ovarian failure.

Oocyte cryopreservation for fertility preservation in transgender individuals is relatively new procedure.

Embryos Cryopreservation

In IVF, all the embryos formed cannot be transferred, so we have to store extra embryos for future use which is also known cryopreservation of embryos.

When embryos are needed, cryolocks where we store embryos are taken out from the liquid nitrogen container and placed in media this procedure is known as thawing. Post thawing, we will assess the viability; viable embryos are transferred in to mother’s womb.
