Ovulation induction is a medical treatment initiated between day 2 to day 5 of menstrual cycle where we stimulate the ovaries with clomiphene or letrozole and may add gonadotropins at a later date depending on the personalized stimulation regimen. Once the follicle and endometrium have reached appropriate size, we administer trigger shot to induce ovulation and then schedule the intercourse or IUI.
For couples without any known infertility issues, timed intercourse around the time of ovulation can result in pregnancy rates of approximately 20% to 25% per cycle. This is similar to natural conception rates.
If there are male factor issues such as low sperm count or motility, the success rates with timed intercourse alone may be lower. In such cases, the success rate might range from 10% to 15% per cycle, depending on the severity of the male factor.
